Sam Fender has given the entirety of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which works to protect the Britain's independent music venues.

Fender was given the award on mid-October as his third album the album was chosen as the top album of the past year.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots had in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was beginning," said Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his live tour to assist numerous small stages across Britain.

The donation helped venues that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges arising from water damage, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in improving infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted performers and audiences.

"The notion that funds from concerts in big venues supports the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his honor winnings to good deeds.

When they won the prize in the mid-90s for their release the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker stated that the band would contribute their cash to the organization the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer she shared her prize among several charities, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also gave a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Two years ago, the band donated their prize money to the community center that developed their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients they donated their winnings to a MS organization after a friend was found to have the illness.

"Winning was quite enough," remarked artist Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust shared it had saved two grassroots venues in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and the second in that location were bought under the community ownership program, which is funded by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
