Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior official stated the attack rendered him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
